About
This course provides an introduction to painting silk for original scarves, handkerchiefs, and fabric as
an ingredient in other sewing projects. The course will study examples of silk painting from fiber
artists, various resist techniques, use of color and pattern.
Over the course of three weekly three hour classes, students will learn how to:
• find sources for the materials needed to get started.
• make and set up a silk painting frame.
• make a project drawing and transfer the image to silk.
• work with various dye materials and resists.
• set and finish the completed project.
Given the expanded class time, instructors will guide students in most of the hands-on activities and
they will have time between sessions to proceed with their projects outside of class.
Each student will receive their own painting frame to use at home.
3 hours each session, sessions held weekly, total of 6 hours, minimum of 5 students.
